Thank you for your patience. Could you please tell me the status of the power indicator on your TV and do you hear any clicks from the unit? In standby mode the indicator light will illuminate red; when switching on the unit the indicator light will illuminate blue.
I will be waiting for your response.

When I turn on the power, the indicator light goes blue and the screen shows the Hitachi logo and name and "Please wait".
Nothing happens for quite a while.
Then the light goes red and the screen goes blank. Almost immediately, the light goes blue and the same display appears on the screen. And the process repeats itself ...
I haven't heard any clicking noises.
Best regards, [REDACTED NAME]

Hi [REDACTED NAME],
Thank you for your response. Do you have another devices connected to the TV, like set top box or a DVD? Please unplug the set (and all other units connected to it) from the wall outlet and disconnect all the connection cables. Then press and hold the power button on the TV itself (not the remote), for 30 seconds. After another minute, plug the set back in and press the power button once. Do you still have the same problem?

Dear [REDACTED NAME], I'm in the office and the TV is at home. I'll try your suggestion as soon as I get home. Thanks.

That would be fine. Thank you.

Dear [REDACTED NAME],
I've tried what you suggest at least three times. It doesn't make any difference. The TV continues to behave the same way.
What else should I do?

Hi [REDACTED NAME],
Thank you for trying that out. I am sorry the procedure didn't help. The most common cause of this problem is failing capacitors in the power supply. They are similar to batteries, in that once they are charged, they can continue to run indefinitely, but once they receive several surges, the resistance gets so low, that they act as a short, and can cause the TV to shut down, and eventually not power up. The solution is to have the capacitors, and the voltages from the power supply board checked and serviced. Average cost for this type of repair is going to be around $200 parts and labor.
The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down when it detects a problem. I suspect a power surge has caused a problem in the power supply but there could be other parts out of compliance. TVs have thousands of parts and any of them can go bad. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Integrated circuits and transistors can go bad. This can cause other components to become defective, which can have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem, which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.
