How to Fix the P2160 Code on a 2011 Ford F250: Speed Sensor Replacement Guide

The speed sensor on your 2011 F250 is located on top of the rear axle, right in the center. To access it, you’ll need to look at the top rear of the transmission, specifically at the housing between the transmission and the transfer case; the sensor will be positioned at the 12 o'clock mark. To replace the speed sensor, start by parking your truck on a level surface and allowing it to cool for about 30 minutes. Then, jack up the front of the vehicle to create enough space for you to slide underneath. Once you're under there, locate the speed sensor on the driver's side of the transmission, toward the rear. It’s a magnetic unit that screws into the transmission and has an electrical connector attached to it. Begin by disconnecting the electrical connector. You’ll need to press the release tabs on the sides of the connector and gently pull it away from the sensor. After that, use a wrench to twist and loosen the sensor from the transmission. Carefully pull it straight out once it’s loose. Now, take your new speed sensor and insert it into the same spot on the transmission. Secure it by twisting it clockwise with the wrench until it’s snug. Finally, reconnect the electrical connector to the new sensor until you hear it click into place. Once everything is back together, slide out from under the vehicle and lower the jack. Your new sensor should now be ready for use.
