How to Effectively Bleed the EBCM on a 1999 Ford F150 4x4?

To manually bleed the electronic hydraulic control unit in your 1999 Ford F150, you'll need to follow a specific procedure to ensure that air is effectively removed from the system. First, it's essential to bleed both the master cylinder and the hydraulic control unit reservoir. Ideally, you should use a tool like the Rotunda Anti-Lock Brake Breakout Box/Bleeding Adapter, model `T90P-50-ALA`, or an equivalent. If you don’t have access to this tool, some auto parts stores may rent it out. Start by disconnecting the 55-pin plug from the electronic control unit or ABS control module. Then, connect the breakout box to the wire harness. Set the bleed/harness switch to the BLEED position and turn the ignition to the ON position. You should see a red OFF light come on. Press the motor button on the adapter to start the pump motor; the red light will turn off and a green ON light will illuminate. The pump will run for about 60 seconds. After about 20 seconds of operation, press and hold the valve button for another 20 seconds before releasing it. The pump will continue to run for an additional 20 seconds after you let go of the valve button. Once this is done, you can bleed the brake lines in the usual way. Start with the right rear caliper, loosening the bleeder fitting and having an assistant slowly press the brake pedal down. Close the fitting before they release the pedal, and repeat this until no bubbles appear in the fluid. Continue this process for the left front, left rear, and right front calipers in that order. Make sure to refill the master cylinder reservoir after each caliper is bled. Once you’ve completed the bleeding, check that the brake pedal feels firm. If it still feels spongy, you may need to repeat the procedure. As an alternative, if you can't access the breakout box, you can try bleeding conventionally and then getting all four tires off the ground. Start the engine, put the vehicle in gear, and accelerate until the speedometer reads 20-25 mph, then slam on the brakes. Repeat this a few times until you hear the ABS motor engage, and then re-bleed the brakes conventionally. This method has about a 60% success rate but may not always work, so keep that in mind.
